Abraham Raymond - White Oak

For many students, the dream of attending college comes with the burden of overwhelming debt. For Abraham, a combination of hard work, determination, and community support has made that dream far more attainable.

Abraham has been accepted to the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), where he plans to begin his college journey this fall. His achievement represents not only a significant academic milestone but also a financial success story.

A key factor in making college affordable has been the support Abraham received through Jersey Mike's partnership with First Generation College Bound. The program helped connect him with scholarship and grant opportunities that substantially reduced the cost of attendance and brought his college aspirations within reach.

The annual direct cost of attending UMBC—including tuition, room, and board—is $29,824. Abraham has secured $27,447 in annual financial aid, a package that includes grants, scholarships, and a $5,000 student loan. After financial aid is applied, his remaining balance is just $2,377. Even more encouraging, Abraham is eligible for a $3,000 federal work-study award, which provides the opportunity to earn money while attending school. By participating in the work-study program, Abraham can effectively cover his remaining balance, allowing him to attend UMBC with little to no out-of-pocket cost and minimal student debt. As he prepares to join the UMBC community, Abraham serves as an example of what is possible when students are supported, encouraged, and given access to the resources they need to succeed.
